Opening Celebration for Wheels on Fire
January 29, 2017 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm ESTFree
Wheels on Fire, the newest exhibit appearing at the historic Belton Train Depot, opens with a celebration and lots of family-friendly activities beginning at 3 PM, Sunday, January 29.
The exhibit focuses on all things with wheels that make our lives more convenient, more fun, and more exciting! There are antique and vintage wheel-related items of all types on display, from a classic motorcycle to 1950’s roller skates, from racing memorabilia to a collection of pedal cars, from racing clothing/gear to photographs of people enjoying their wheels, from mechanic’s tools to graphic skateboards.
While visiting the exhibit, children can make a Lego car and race it to victory, climb on a jungle gym made from tractor/truck tires, or try their skill on an indoor skateboarding ramp. Racing themed snacks will also be available.
Depending on their racing schedules, motocross racers Steward and Grant Baylor and race car drivers Justin and Luke Sorrow will be on hand to tell about their driving exploits.
A car exhibition will also be on the green space of the depot, if weather permits.
After the opening, items will be on display through April 8 during regular museum hours, from 9 AM – 2 PM Wednesday through Friday, and 9 AM – 1 PM on Saturday. Group tours can be arranged by appointment.
The exhibit is sponsored by Anderson County ATAX, City of Belton HTAX, Baron Tire Co., and Belton Motors, LLC. Thanks to the patronage of these sponsors, the opening event and museum entry are free to the public.
