As part of the On the Road: The History of Transportation exhibit, BAMA is bringing you a special presentation by Kathryn Smith.
Author of Methodists and Moonshiners, Another Prohibition Expedition Through the South with Cocktail Recipes, Smith will present an entertaining view of George Washington’s travels throughout the south after his elected presidency.
Adopting the persona of Washington’s wife Martha, Smith will regale the audience with tales of the hazards and mystery, travails and celebrations experienced during this historic trip the couple took in 1791 by carriage with stops in South Carolina along the coast.
A small sampling of a few cocktails served to the Washingtons during their trip will also be available to those of age.
The book, Methodists and Moonshiners, Another Prohibition Expedition Through the South with Cocktail Recipes, newly released in October and which is a companion to Smith’s previous book Baptists and Bootleggers, will be for sale by the author.
The presentation will be held at the historic Belton Train Depot on Thursday night, November 9, at 6:30 PM. The event is free, thanks to our sponsors.
