Home School Event: The History and Science of Tennis

May 24 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am

$3.00

Students aged 7 to 12 are invited for the second home school-only educational event, Thursday May 24, from 10 to 11 am at the historic Belton Train Depot.

In celebration of the Palmetto Junior Tennis Tourney held yearly in Belton, this event will focus on the history and physics of tennis.

Students will learn all about our area’s rich tennis history by touring the SC Tennis Hall of Fame and experiencing artifacts and momentoes of famous Carolina players and coaches, including those from 7 Wimbledon contenders and Althea Gibson, first African- American tennis player who broke all racial barriers in the sport. It was Gibson’s unwavering devotion to tennis in the face of great personal discrimination that paved the way for modern standouts Arthur Ashe and Serena and Venus Williams.

Students will also analyze the angles, motions, and speeds involved in the game by conducting hands-on physics experiments.

Cost is $3 per student and reservations must be made by calling the museum at 338-7400 by May 19. Spots are limited, so call today!
